Evaluation: Question 4

This piece of coursework relied on a lot of different technologies - by having access to a variety of different technologies, it enabled me to present my work in a more interesting and creative way. This makes a change from having large blocks of text to look at.

Web 2.0 played a large part in my coursework as I have relied on it for feedback. I have used Facebook to create a group in order to gain feedback on my pitch, rough cut and music video. Web 2.0 has enabled me to directly involve my target audience in the process of making my music video. It is also an efficient way to gain helpful feedback. Web 2.0 has also helped the communication within our group. For example, we could discuss when we were going to meet up and film more of the video or take photos for our print work. Also we were able to share images between each other. This saves a lot more time, as before we would have had to arrange to meet up in person to arrange another meet up in order to film our music video. Therefore, web 2.0 has played a large and successful part in distributing our video.

Technological determinism affected our video in some ways, for example: we couldn't upload our final video or rough cut straight onto Blogger. Firstly, we had to upload it onto YouTube, although this took more time, it was beneficial to us as our video received more interactivity. It was also an advantage as it enabled me to create professional looking print work on Photoshop.

Evaluation Question 3

The negative comments from my focus group all picked up on the same points e.g the lip synching was off in a few places and the narrative definitely needed to be clarified by the ending shot of the Father and daughter together. The feedback I received from Becky said that she thought the black and white symbolised death. This could be a problem throughout the video; however, the ambiguity of the narrative could be effective as the audience is guessing until the ending shot. This fits in with Barthes theory as the video is a puzzle for them to figure out. The focus group also picked up on the fact that the video had multiple film aspects - this is what I wanted to achieve as Buckingham's theory states that genres are 'constantly evolving.' Therefore the film-like aspects is an entropic element to my genre.

Feedback for Print Work and Overall Package

The feedback I received for my print work varied. Becky had said that it looked professional and worked well as a whole package. The images and the colours reflected the feel of the music video - therefore, there is continuity within the promotional package. However, she did say that she didn't like the orange flash of light on the original print advert as it didn't fit in with the overall colour scheme. I agreed with her, therefore I changed it to a cooler colour of blue and purple.
