Redundancy: is a message that is predictable and conventional. It is what we as an audience can expect to see; for example, greeting someone with 'hello' is predictable, as it is what we would expect. However, greeting someone with 'goodbye' is not.
Entropy: is described as the opposite of redundancy, it is unpredictable; meaning that a text can be entropic if it contains unpredictable elements.
- Most texts will portray and blend both of the elements
The image on the left is not redundant (it is entropic) as it is not what we would expect to see. We would expect to see the image on the right, which is off a scary looking shark with jagged teeth.
